Portraits

These images are a few of my personal favorite portraits I've shot thus far.  They were taken in a diverse locals with diverse subjects. With each portrait I take, I try to relate my subject to their surroundings whilst trying to reveal their personality.

Shadow and Highlight

These are a few images I took while I was in Indialantic, FL with my boyfriend and his family.  I was really drawn to the texture and abstract patterns created by the sand, waves, and clouds. The photos were converted to black and white to emphasize these complex textures and patterns.

Clear View

This is an image I created using multiple images with various apertures so that every detail is in focus.  The assignment was to set up a scene and practice working with focus as well as with layers in photoshop.  In my original photo, the sky was quite dull. So, after I completed the assignment I added a view from the same window but from another more visually stunning day.  I think the ominous sky really adds to the the photograph.

Everyday Patterns

This is my current working project in my Digital photography class.  It is an experiment with photomerge. I tried to flatten images of typical grocery store aisles to show the color and pattern created.  The images above were created using several images that are combined to form a whole.  Some of the images did not merge well when the automatic photomerge application in Photoshop was utilized. So, I had to combine some images manually.  The manual photomerge was successful to a point, but being a perfectionist that I am, I plan on re-shooting. With a tripod, I believe the images will be much more uniform. Overall, I am proud of my first attempt and think the images above qualify as successful.

What I see

My name is Caitlin Zimmerman and I am a media arts student at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. I'm heavily influenced by Aaron Siskind and his philosophy that no photograph can ever be taken again even by the same individual.  The idea that photography is as "quick as a thought" reveals itself in my photography and allows a unique point of view to be realized.  This blog's prospectus is to share with you what I see and what I find interesting through my photography.
